Discovering Our Coaches: Arturo Vera, Goalkeeper Coach

April 10, 2018

The role of a goalkeeper is uniquely demanding on the football field. Unlike the other ten players, goalkeepers require specialized athletic, technical, and tactical training. Recognizing the importance of this role, Spain Rush-SPF employs dedicated goalkeeper coaches, one of whom is the highly experienced Arturo Vera from Valencia.

Arturo has extensive experience in football academies, coordinating goalkeeper training across various age groups, from under-8s to semi-professional teams. His deep understanding of goalkeeper development provides a comprehensive training approach that is crucial for nurturing young talents.

The training sessions designed by Arturo Vera are tailored to each age group, combining athletic and technical training within forty-minute sessions. During these sessions, goalkeepers work separately from field players, typically in small groups of two or three, to focus on specialized drills that enhance specific skills such as reaction times, footwork, and aerial abilities through intensive short series.

After these focused sessions, goalkeepers then integrate with the field players. This part of the training is vital as it helps them apply their specialized skills in a game setting, enhancing their overall performance and understanding of match situations.

This structured approach to goalkeeper training is widely adopted by professional Spanish football teams and has been a staple in Arturo’s coaching methodology throughout his career.
